This products indicates on the container, “professional use”. Well I am not a professional!!!! I purchased the larger container and the Dover Blue was a close match to the concrete color I wanted. I had several small cracks that I repaired with a concrete crack filler. I performed an acid etch to my surface and then repaired the small cracks. The crack filler was pretty low viscosity but it made a good seal. I did not realize how the Cem Coat product would cover, I had never used it before. I was going to cover a concrete porch about 33 feet by 8 feet. Here are a few tips.
1. Do not do this on a hot day!!! I am 65 years old, out of shape and I picked a time when the temperature was 70 degrees.
2. Make sure you clean all the lawn clippings away from the area. FAR AWAY. Sounds obvious, but somehow little grass clippings kept showing up. I used a small vacuum cleaner as I worked. I took my shoes off….it was driving me crazy.
3. Even the smallest little cracks – LITTLE – in your concrete will transfer through when you “paint” the CemCoat over your concrete. Do you prep work if you do not want to see the little cracks. I did a good job fixing the larger cracks and the little ones I did not expect to be a problem….it was.
4. Have all the edges taped off before you start. The product says 3 hours…Well, much beyond 2 hours and you will start to see this stuff getting thick, and somewhat difficult to paint with.
I was happy with the color, and the product seemed like something even an older person could do. Plan ahead and maybe have a helper to be with you to get you a drink of water or a towel to dry the perspiration off …plan ahead. I was happy with the outcome.
4 stars.
